The Latino population grew 43 percent in the last decade, from 35 to 50.5 million residents in 2010, according to the United States Census Bureau. This increase is four times the national growth rate for the population which as a whole was only 9.7%. The Hispanic growth also does not only take place exclusively around the U.S. border with Mexico but in all 50 states including the District of Columbia.
